Bluewater Track & Field Championship
Day 1 at Kincardine
Two Bluewater records were set yesterday.
Kevin Bowman of Saugeen District Secondary in Port Elgin and Rita Rudell of the Peninsula Shores Phoenix both established new standards.
In the Midget Boys shot put, Bowman set a new record with a distance of 14.92 metres.
And in the Senior Girls 100 metre hurdles, Rudell lowered her own record time which was set last year at the meet.
In spite of constant precipitation and a driving wind, Rudell lowered the record to 14,9 seconds.
The final day of the meet is set to commence at 10 am this morning.

Memorial Cup
from Jon Meyer, 104.9 The Beach, Goderich
The 2008 Memorial Cup in Kitchener is almost completely sold out.
Kitchener Rangers Media Relations Officer Michelle Fortin says they just released some more ticket packages.
Fortin says they had 90 packages left as of Tuesday but they are going fast.
She adds there are no single tickets for sale but fans can always look at purchasing tickets from other fans online through various ticket websites.
The host Kitchener Rangers will open the tournament on Friday against the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL.
The Spokane Chiefs locked up their berth in the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup after defeating the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
The Chiefs will face the Belleville Bulls in the second game of the tournament on Saturday

There's a new look for Senior Hockey in the Ontario Hockey Association.
Two OHA leagues have joined and will play as the Major League Hockey.
The new League will consist of the Brantford Blast, the Whitby Dunlop's and the Dundas Real McCoy's.
They, along with the Norwood (Peterborough) Vipers, and the Orillia/Coldwater Tundra's will form the new league.

from Jon Meyer, 104.9 The Beach, Goderich
Two Junior "C" hockey leagues may soon have two new teams.
A couple of Junior "D" organizations are waiting to see if they will be allowed to move up.
OHA President Brent Ladds says the Mitchell Hawks and Mt. Brydges Bulldogs have submitted applications to the OHA expressing their intent of joining two Junior "C" leagues for next season.
The Hawks have applied to join the Western Junior "C" Hockey league, and the Bulldogs have applied to join the Great Lakes Junior "C" League.
Ladds says both teams have to meet with the leagues first and gain approval.
Ladds says then the recommendation from the two leagues along with their application's goes to the OHA's Board of Directors.
And he expects a final decision after their first board meeting in June.
Last year in the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League, the Hawks finished 2nd in their division with 18 wins and 20 losses equaling 38 points.
Mt. Brydges finished with 36 wins and only 3 losses adding up to 73 points which was good for first in their division.

Bench Talk/Off The Wire....
If it's a Thursday, then you know the Owen Sound Rams are at home.
The local Junior B lacrosse club is hosting the Orangeville Northmen tonight at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center.
Tonight is the first of 6 consecutive Thursday nights at home for the Rams who start the second quarter of the season with a record of 2 & 3.
Furthermore, all 6 of the Thursday night string are division matchups against the Northmen, the Regals or the Mohawks.
Following tonight's game with the Northmen, the Rams will have Thursday home games against Elora, then Guelph ( on back to back Thursdays ),
Orangeville again and then conclude with Elora, again, on June 19th.
Yes, the Rams do have some Conference games at home on the odd weekend date in the next 6 weeks, but make no mistake, their fortunes are decided within the division and the division comes to Owen Sound every Thursday night at 8 pm.
So, what I'm saying is that Thursdays not only are game days for the Rams, they are BIG game days at home and their hope is threefold.
One, they hope local lacrosse and sports fans will get into the habit of supporting the club during this stretch of Thursday home games.
Two, they hope to reward the support and be successful at home during this stretch of Thursdays.
And three, they hope Saturday night, you'll make a trip out to Keady for their Video Dance Party which will go a long way in alleviating the costs associated with the nights they're not at home.
Rams & Orangeville tonight at 8.
I'm Fred Wallace
