Well we made it everyone!
Or just about....we turn the calendar to March on Sunday.
Normally, I'm not a big fan of February....and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.
It can be a very 'blah' month as we all know, grey and dreary and strangely long.
But this year has been different for me.
I've had a great February, and not just because of recent sunny and mild days.
I became a proud godmother this month.
I'm still getting used to using that term in reference to myself.
It's a huge honour and a little intimidating, but it's definitely something I'm embracing with my whole heart.
I don't have a godparent and I don't think my parents did either, but I do know my grandparents did, so the tradition was in the family.
As I've reflected on what I want to do for my godson, I've realized that when the time comes I want my own kids to have godparents.
There's something about just having that title.....it can mean different things to different people but here's what it means to me.
My godson will always know no matter what, I'm there for him.
I'm a trusted adult outside of the family who he can turn to when he needs to.
I'm someone to look up to and learn from, to offer guidance along the path of life, to have fun with.
When I was growing up, there were always close family friends around - but no one held that authority of being someone handpicked and designated by my parents as a someone looking over just me.
It's definitely a role that I think many kids could use these days.
So here's to bringing it back, at least in my family anyway.
And here's to great Februarys...let's hope that becomes a tradition as well.
