Is it possible that Americans have finally seen enough? Maybe it's just wishful thinking but in the past week or so we have seen some developments that could signal a long overdue response to mass shootings in the United States.
Why now after 17 students and staff were killed at a Florida high school? Why not after 58 people were killed and more than 500 injured by a shooter in Las Vegas last fall? Or Newtown, Connecticut, when 26 young children and teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary were gunned down, or when 32 people were slaughtered in the Virginia Tech massacre?
I think the biggest factor is the voice of the next generation of Americans...the surviving students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. These smart and gutsy kids know how the system works and they are working the system. The business community is stepping up as if to say everybody has to take some responsibility and do its part to effect change. Even President Trump is smart enough to know that another round of platitudes and stonewalling won't cut it. With stock in gun and ammo companies falling the NRA cannot go on holding the US hostage. Maybe there is finally hope for some gun sanity south of the border.
