Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay was touting the value of NAFTA to about 5 thousand delegates to the American Farm Bureau Federation convention in Nashville.

The P.E.I. MP was introduced as the first Canadian agriculture minister to speak to the meeting, and he gave a keynote address Sunday that focused on the importance of the trade agreement for both Canada and the United States.

MacAulay said from burgers to breakfast, we make good food together.

There was $47 billion worth of agricultural trade between the U.S. and Canada in 2017.

And MacAulay said any disruption of cross-border trade in produce would hurt both economies.

A blaze over the weekend destroyed a large barn in Wellesley township near Waterloo.

Officials say sixty-eight cows were rescued, but six horses, 150 pigs and a dozen chickens died in the fire.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.

No cause has been determined.
