Canada is working with the World Trade Organization to support balanced global trade.
A Joint Ministerial Statement on Trade in Food and Agricultural Products was recently signed by Federal officials.
It aims to ensure a predictable and progressive global trade environment that helps Canada's agricultural exporters remain competitive.
The statement also re-affirms the central importance of science and risk analysis to protect public health, while enabling the safe use of pesticides.
The Federal government says it believes it is crucial to work collaboratively to reduce and eliminate unjustified non-tariff measures, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Premier Kathleen Wynne has announced Ontario's highest honour for innovative solutions in support of the agri-food industry, at the 11th annual Premier's Awards for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence.
Stouffville-based Greenbelt Microgreens received the top honour of the Premier's Award for developing an eco-friendly process to grow organic microgreens year-round.
The company's state-of-the-art facility grows nutrient-dense sunflower sprouts, pea shoots, wheat grass and other microgreens that can be produced on an average 10-day growth cycle, with a shelf life of 13 days.
