One person is dead and a dozen are in hospital from E-Coli food poisoning.

Health Canada says 30 people also became ill after eating romaine lettuce.

It's an update on a report earlier when 21 people were sick, 10 were in hospital but at that point, none had died.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is working with public health personnel to try to track down the source of the outbreak.

It is probably imported lettuce if, indeed, it proves to be lettuce at fault.

There have been six cases in Ontario, five in Quebec, five in New Brunswick, one in Nova Scotia and 13 in Newfoundland-Labrador.

A warning today from the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Jeff Leal says by 2050 there will be 9 billion people on the planet.

That is a jump of 1.5 billion in just 33 years.

He told farmers at the OFA annual general meeting recently, they need to be prepared for more extreme climate events, water constraints, and geopolitical instability.

Leal says that he just returned from Mexico where he met with Canada's chief NAFTA negotiator, where he reiterated that any proposals that threaten the integrity of supply management are absolute non-starters for Ontario.
