The Economist Magazine in England ranks Canada poorly in a food sustainability index.

It is the second year the Economist has published its list and France has ranked best both times.

The top scored countries overall are France, Japan, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Italy, South Korea and Hungary.

Canada is in second spot, behind the United Kingdom, in the second tier.

The Economist says generally, the countries that place in the top quartile typically demonstrate strong and effectively implemented government policy on food waste and loss, agriculture-related conservation and research, and nutrition education.

Manitoba's swine industry hasn't seen a new case of porcine epidemic virus in nearly two months.

The last reported case of PED was on October 24th, and that case was confirmed on a finisher operation.

About 80 premises in the southeastern part of the province remain under surveillance, but some of the operations are almost completely free of PED.

Alberta's pork sector is also clear of any cases of PED or porcine deltacoronavirus.

Alberta Agriculture collects more than 200 samples per month from processing plants, trucks, truck wash stations and assembly yards.
