Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
The Owen Sound Attack conclude a stretch of 6 straight games against Midwest Division foes tonight when they travel to Guelph to meet the Storm in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Attack have lost all 5 games to this point in the sequence, losing at London, at home twice to Guelph and dropping both ends of a home & home against the Kitchener Rangers.
The 5 game losing skid has pushed the Attack out of a Top 4 position and leaves them looking nervously over their shoulder at the playoff qualification line.
But there is some good news, isn't there ?
In all 5 losses the Attack have had a lead. Sure, some leads have been short term, but it's not like they've been slaughtered in 5 straight games.
With overtime and shootout losses in the last 2 matches, the Attack do have a 2 game point streak.
Plus, the current losing streak is nowhere near record proportions- the Owen Sound record is 17 straight losses a decade ago. The franchise record of 25 straight losses was established, ironically, by the Guelph Platers more than 30 years ago.
& Furthermore, this losing skid is the longest for an Owen Sound team since January of 2013...and if I remember correctly, that Attack team went on to finish 3rd in the Conference that season.
So, there's hope and possibility.....
....but only if a number of aspects in their game get cleaned up in short order.
