Ice Hawks & Bob Merkley Silver Stick
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The Owen Sound Attack host the Kitchener Rangers tonight in the opener of a Midwest Division home & home set.
The rematch goes Friday at Kitchener.
Heading into the game tonight at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre, the Attack sit 2nd in the division, just 4 points back of Kitchener who have played 2 more games.
So doing the math......
However, the Attack have issues, multiple issues that EVERYONE is well aware of; issues that have persisted, festered, multiplied and combined to halt any sense of progress through the month of November, so we'll leave it there for now and watch for better things tonight against the Rangers who have lost their last 3 games.
Some other hockey viewpoints.....
I spent Saturday at the first-ever Northern Lights Classic and Ice Hawks Showcase featuring Girls Hockey from Novice to Midget.
The games were good, the local teams did well and the growth potential for both the tournament and the Showcase looks very positive.
Then Sunday, I went back to my roots for the annual Bob Merkley Memorial Silver Stick Tournament at Midland.
Did you know this is the 60th year of International Silver Stick competition ? I knew it was a long history, I just didn't realize it was 6 decades old.
Sunday was a tough day for Collingwood teams as the Bantam Blackhawks lost the Final to the Aurora Tigers 3-1 yielding an empty net marker, while the Midget Blackhawks lost 2-1 to the New Hamburg Firebirds on a power play goal in overtime.
Tough losses for Collingwood Minor Hockey for sure, something the Attack & Kitchener Rangers know only too well of late.
See you tonight
I'm Fred Wallace
