Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau is climbing down from yet another controversial tax proposal, in order to address the concerns of farmers and fishers.

Morneau and Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced Thursday that the government is abandoning the proposed tax reform that would have restricted the conversion of income into capital gains.

He says they will take a step back and reconsider that aspect of their tax proposal.

That proposal would have made it more difficult for farmers and other business owners to pass on their businesses to their children.

A deal has been struck between the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to share food safety data and research.

The Memorandum of understanding.... was signed this week at the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition campus in College Park, Maryland.

It eases the sharing of information on matters such as development of research methods and needs, chemical and microbiological risk profiles, and newly developed methods.

CFIA says it will help to bolstering innovation and advance research, which will ultimately help lead to a better quality of life for all Canadians.
