NHL Season Opens

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "

The NHL opens tonight ....and we've got an Ontario Hockey League game as well in Owen Sound; the Sarnia Sting are in to face the Attack.

It's early in the season certainly, but points are points.

After whacking Ottawa on Sunday afternoon, the Sting come in with a record of 3 & 1, just 1 point back of the Western Conference co-leaders- Kitchener & Sault Ste Marie. Sarnia has also played 1 less game than the Conference leaders.

The Attack too have been fairly successful, accumulating 5 of a possible 6 points in their 3 games- the only blemish being a shootout loss to Flint on the opening night of the season.

But there's more to watching the Attack at this point of this season than simply watching the scoreboard.

Who plays with whom up front ?

Who partners with whom on the back-end ?

Who's in the lineup on a game to game basis ?

And maybe more significantly, who's not dressed and what's the end plan for those players ?

Who's the goalie tonight ?

Veteran Zack Bowman has got the nod in the opening 3 matches, does he go again tonight ? Or, do we see heralded underage Mack Guzda in the net ?

It's just 3 games and there have been points in all 3 outings for Owen Sound.

But the belief here is that they're capable of far more than they've shown early and what they show tonight and through the next two weeks will answer most of the questions listed above.

I'm Fred Wallace
