Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
Owen Sound Grey Motors United defeated the Bridgeport Strikers 4-1 on Sunday afternoon in Kitchener District Soccer League play at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex in Owen Sound.
The victory allowed Grey Motors to stay in contention for a playoff spot heading to their final game of the regular season on Sunday at Guelph against the last place Galaxy.
However, by the time Owen Sound kicks off against the Galaxy at 6 pm Sunday night, they may very well be eliminated from playoff contention.
After beating Bridgeport, Owen Sound moved to within 3 points, or 1 win, of the final playoff spot held by the other Guelph entry; the Gryphons.
Owen Sound does have the tiebreaker advantage IF both United and the Gryphons finish the season at 22 points.
But in order for that to happen, Grey Motors needs a lot of help this week.
In order for Owen Sound to make the post season, they have to hope ( maybe pray ) for the following sequence;
Thursday- 5th place Stratford beats the Gryphons in Stratford.
Sunday afternoon- 7th place Bridgeport beats the Gryphons in Guelph
& then Sunday night- Owen Sound defeats the Galaxy in Guelph.
Anything other than that exact sequence of 3 results means the Guelph Gryphons make it and Grey Motors does not.
