Hi, this is Fred Wallace with Off the Wire.
I often lament the departure of Summer, if there's one season I'd like extended it's Summer.
However, there are many perks to the advancement of Fall, especially from a sporting standpoint.
Yesterday we talked about the pending season opener and home opener for the Owen Sound Attack in the Ontario Hockey League.
Today, the Bluewater Football League commences when the 3 time defending champion St Mary's Mustangs host the Saugeen District Royals.
The excitement in the football loop is heightened this year with the full time return of Senior programs at Grey Highlands in Flesherton and John Diefenbaker in Hanover.
League play runs through September and October and climaxes with the Championship Game on Friday November 3rd.
And finally, there's been a change to note for the annual Bluewater East Elementary Cross Country Meet, generally considered to be the largest school sporting event in our region.
The Bluewater East meet will be staged on Thursday October 12th.
However, the venue for the meet will be altered.
After many years at 4th Canadian Division Training Centre near Meaford, the competition will be conducted at the Kiwanis Soccer Complex in Owen Sound.
Also of note, the annual Bluewater West Elementary Meet is October 11th and remains at Saugeen Bluffs near Paisley.
