Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Here we go.
Just like that, there are 7 Ontario Hockey League Exhibition games today.
Of note, 3 of the games are at Buffalo, part of unique showcase event that will feature Flint, Windsor, Kitchener, North Bay, Erie and Peterborough through the weekend.
As has almost always been the tradition for 20+ years, the Owen Sound Attack & Barrie Colts will meet in a home & home Labour Day Weekend set.
The Attack will host the Colts Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.
Then Monday night at 6, the Attack will be at the Molson Centre.
How significant are the exhibition games ?
I don't think there's any study or proof that there's a correlation.
Last year, if memory serves me right, the Attack won 4 out of 5 preseason games.
You may say " Ah-HA ", thanks to that pre-season, the Attack were propelled to a franchise record setting season in terms of wins and points.
But you might also say " Ah-HA ", after that solid pre-season mark, the Attack promptly started the season 2 & 4 which included losses to Sarnia, Flint, Guelph and Sudbury, teams they were clearly better than as the season unfolded.
Furthermore, with just 1 more victory early in the season, the Attack might have finished 1st in the Western Conference last year and might have had home ice for a playoff series with Erie....
But last year, other than being a reference point, matters little with a new Ontario Hockey League season, albeit the pre-season, now upon us.
