Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The much hyped boxing match between undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr and UFC superstar Conor McGregor is coming up on Saturday in Las Vegas
The 29-year-old McGregor is the reigning lightweight champion, while the 40-year-old Mayweather came out of retirement to put his perfect 49-0 record on the line.
Because they're boxing, and only boxing, I can't see Mayweather losing this fight......unless something totally spectacular takes place.
And that's the lure.
Mayweather-McGregor is a promoter's dream, a spectacle that has the attention of everyone because....
And that's what makes the UFC what it is, brilliant in their ability to sell the sizzle and move on to the next sizzling matchup
Think not ?
How about Georges St-Pierre against Michael Bisping set for November 4th at Madison Square Garden in New York.
St Pierre has been out of the picture for almost 4 years, yet the UFC has rolled right along.
Does anyone remember the massive worry that Pay-Per-View cash cow GSP's departure would cripple the company ?
Far from it as it turned out.
And as further proof, how about the Brock Lesnar-Jon Jones nonsense.
Granted, it's been toned down from the initial callouts and challenges on both sides, but it's still in the air enough to make fight fans think a Jones-Lesnar spectacle could happen...someday.
