Parade Day

By Fred Wallace

Owen Sound Lacrosse Has Solid Results

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

The Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Association is conducting their awards and recognition night this evening and there's been plenty to celebrate.

Over the last two weekends, both the NorthStars Box Lacrosse and Field lacrosse for the Girls have enjoyed rides through the city on fire trucks to mark the occasion of a provincial championship at their level.

There's another parade tonight at 6:30 pm featuring almost a half dozen provincial championship teams from the city.

It also bears noting, the Orangeville Northmen are among the 6 teams at the Canadian Junior B Championships this week in Saskatoon.

Orangeville won their second straight provincial crown and for a 2nd straight year they were pushed very hard in the opening round by the Junior B NorthStars.

There's still a discernible gap between the Northmen and the NorthStars but it's far more encouraging than in previous years.

And finally, the Six Nations Rivermen will host the Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championships after winning the Ontario title with a 3 game sweep of the Owen Sound NorthStars.

A sweep; yes, but a very narrow one with 2 overtime victories and another 1 goal verdict.

There's room to grow but the summer of 2017 has been solid for lacrosse in Owen Sound.

I'm Fred Wallace
