Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
There's a lot of excitement in the lacrosse community in Owen Sound these days with Provincial Championship teams, plus a big parade and awards night set for tomorrow.
Owen Sound has always been a lacrosse pocket with a well structured stream from Minor through Junior B to Senior.
Of course, lacrosse for Owen Sound players isn't restricted to the city as the city and region has had numerous players compete in Junior A or Major in recent years.
One of the most remarkable stories this year and all-time in NLL Lacrosse unfolded this year with an Owen Sounder, Adam Jones, somewhat of a central figure.
Playing for the Saskatchewan Rush, Jones scored the go-ahead goal late in the NLL Final against Georgia.
The Rush then had possession with just 11 seconds to play and elected to pull their goalie to counteract the Swarm who had done likewise in a desperate move by Georgia to try to regain possession and try for a tying goal.
The move backfired massively on the Rush who incredibly lost possession and allowed the Swarm to tie the game with 2 seconds remaining and eventually win the championship in overtime.
The memories for the Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Field and Box Champions will be long lasting. Will those memories outlast the memories of the 2017 NLL Final ?
