Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
I doubt the 16th annual Dream of Glory night at Hanover Raceway could have worked out any better.
The weather was good, the crowd was large, the betting handle for the night was in excess of $67,000, the races were mostly tight, the times were fast, the fireworks show was spectacular and the Dream of Glory Final was an excellent contest.
There have been years when Hanover's biggest race has been a blowout, but that certainly wasn't the case Saturday.
Scott Young took " Magic Night " to the lead and set the pace for most of the mile before " Mister Muscle " with Bob McClure driving emerged from the pack, bypassed the leader, and scored the victory in the $ 71,400 final.
An exciting race for big money is always great for Hanover Raceway, but to me the real gem was the post race comments from the winning driver.
In the winner's circle, Bob McClure related that Hanover Raceway is a special spot for him as he launched his career there, plus winning the Dream of Glory, to him, ranks as one of the greatest accomplishments you can attain in the sport.
Keep in mind, Bob McClure won more than 500 races last year and has already scored more than 1,000 career victories at a young age.
So an endorsement of the track and the race from someone with that kind of resume is pure gold.
There's no racing this Saturday at Hanover with the annual Fair taking the property for the weekend, but it's back to the track come August 19th and with the bar now set this high, we'll see if Hanover Raceway can have a few more spectacular nights in 2017.
