Plenty of Fastball (When The Weather Clears)
Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire. "
The 53rd annual Tom Simms Memorial Fastball Tournament at Meaford will be staged this weekend.
Play starts tomorrow night at Croft Athletic Field and runs through the Championship Games on Sunday afternoon.
Fourteen teams are entered and the lineup of those teams that are known commodities in these parts is pretty impressive.
The Owen Sound Junior Selects, the Wiarton Nationals, the Allenford Astros and the Port Elgin Blue Devils all have championship pedigrees of one form or another in the sport.
And who's to say the lesser known squads won't be formidable.
We'll find out tomorrow night when the first game goes at 6:45 and winds though 28 games leading to the Championship Final mid-afternoon on Sunday.
And while Croft Field is hosting a long running sporting event in Meaford, there's also significant fastball action this weekend at Jarvis and Stouffville.
At Jarvis, the Ontario Amateur Softball Association Midget " A " event is being staged and will feature the Shallow Sting, the Tara Titans and the Chepstow Lang Farm squad that won the Elimination Tournament in Owen Sound just 25 days ago.
Stouffville has the OASA Peewee " C " event which includes the Wiarton Peewees who open against Ottawa South Saturday morning at 11 am.
See you in Meaford.
I'm Fred Wallace
