Annual OS Minor Lacrosse Tournament Wraps Up

" Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

The annual Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse Father's Day Classic Tournament concluded Sunday afternoon with 5 Championship Games at the JD McArthur Arena.

The day started awkwardly with the Tyke, Novice and Peewee games being blowouts, but both the Bantam Final and the Midget Final were significantly tighter with Centre Wellington taking the Bantam crown and Hamilton winning in Midget.

With blowout finals and no Owen Sound NorthStar teams in any of the championship finals, you might suggest the tournament was lacking.

Not in my view.

First of all, there's nothing an organizing committee can do to prevent a one-sided result either in the round robins or the final.

But that aside, I enjoyed the circular encounters of Championship Sunday.

Chris Hajt who was a solid defender for the Guelph Storm was in the building to see his son play...unfortunately the youngster was injured in a pre-game mishap and missed the final.

Rick Morton who was a captain of the Owen Sound Platers was the coach of the victorious KW Braves in the Novice Final.

And Duncan Brownell who played goal for the 1976 Midland Midgets in hockey, returned to Owen Sound as coach of the Burlington Chiefs who were defeated 4-1 by Centre Wellington in the best game of the day; the Bantam Championship.

A deep breath has been taken by the organizing committee after the annual affair and while there's plenty of local lacrosse still ahead this season, the view for the 2018 tournament will be coming into focus.
