Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The sport fishing industry is active in our region.
The Georgian Triangle Spring Trout Derby, Fish Kincardine, the Chantry Chinook Classic and the Owen Sound Salmon Spectacular are among the prominent events that take place along the shorelines of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.
Recently, I was informed of another neat little angling function; this one for kids, conducted by the East Grey Hunters and Anglers.
This Saturday and Sunday, the annual Bass Derby centered out of Meaford has a participant range from 3 to 15 year olds and generally attracts in the neighborhood of 200 youngsters.
Whether they land a fish or not, every youngster gets a prize from the organizers, plus there's more than a dozen bicycles that will be given out as prizes during the awards ceremony.
The awards ceremony will be staged at the Pavilion in Meaford Sunday afternoon from noon-3 pm.
Best of all from this derby, the organizers maintain a " live release " policy which sets an early example for the young anglers that when conservation wins, everybody wins.
