Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Tonight is a significant night for the city of Owen Sound.
Significant for the past.
Significant for the moment.
And hopefully, significant for the long term future.
The Owen Sound Community Fund along with the Canada 150 & Owen Sound 160 Celebration Committees, will spotlight the sporting achievements of Owen Sound Olympians Larisa Yurkiw and Jason Crone at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
From 5:30-8 pm this evening, the public is invited to the come & go concept which features Yurkiw, a World Cup Alpine performer, and Crone, who was a dominant player in International Wheelchair Rugby.
Both Yurkiw and Crone are retired now, but acknowledging them for the immense sense of pride the city and region derived from their accomplishments in the past is due and will be accorded fully tonight.
As part of the night, the Community Fund will also showcase the various aspects of local sporting and community activities that they support through the fund and look enthusiastically to the future of the fund.
What's the value of community sport and how great is the need for sporting activities to be financially supported ?
Tonight, the Community Fund and their partners through Larisa Yurkiw and Jason Crone illustrate just how far an athlete from the city of Owen Sound can go, and how meaningful that journey is to them...... and to all of us.
I'm Fred Wallace
