Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about the World Baseball Classic.....so I won't.
Watching Korea play Israel yesterday just didn't do it for me.
So let's backtrack to yesterday; I was out and about in Owen Sound in the afternoon and you couldn't miss it...
Packed parking lots, out of town bus companies, Hockey Jackets, School Jackets, Pizza boxes, lineups at various establishments....
The CWOSSA " A-AA " Hockey Tournament started with 14 teams, 6 Girls & 8 Boys, all but the St Mary's Mustangs from out of town.
So, tell me again why the Regional Rec was a poor idea.....
Remember how the facility was going to collapse into a hole at Victoria Park ?
Remember the gnashing of teeth about how traffic on the East Hill would be an ordeal ?
And the taxes....ohhhh the taxes.
Viewing yesterday's hive of activity in the city, it reminds me of last year's CWOSSA Hockey Tournament and how we hoped then that Owen Sound would become an annual tournament site.
The CWOSSA Hockey Tournament utilized 3 ice pads and had 18 games over the course of 1 day and climax this afternoon with the Championship Games.
Again, the question is how many other sports and activities could utilize the venues and facilities to the betterment of their sport and the city ?
I'm Fred Wallace
