Mid-February Big Games

By Fred Wallace

Bluewater Athletics, OHL & GMHL

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

As we bypass mid-February, we notice that there are big days and big games seemingly everywhere.

Yesterday, the Bluewater Boys Basketball Championships were conducted.

The Sacred Heart Crusaders took the Senior Boys title while the Junior Wolves of Owen Sound District took the Bluewater crown.

I think it's fair to say the biggest game today is in Erie, Pennsylvania where the Otters host the London Knights in a Midwest Division showdown in the Ontario Hockey League.

After 52 games, the Otters have 81 points, the Knights have 79.

That's not to say the game in Owen Sound tonight between the Attack and the Flint Firebirds isn't big.

Flint has points in 6 straight games and sit 5 back of lurching Kitchener for 6th in the Western Conference.

The Attack on a 4 game win streak are looking to grab sole possession of 4th place in the Conference.

Game time is 7 pm at JD McArthur Arena.

Also tonight, while the Knights of Meaford aren't playing, they'll be keenly aware of what transpires in Bradford as the Bulls take on Parry Sound.

Put simply, if the Bulls don't get a point, the Knights will face Parry Sound in a best of 5 playoff matchup.

If the Bulls do get a point tonight, the Knights will be relegated to 8th place & " play-in " status in a one game showdown against Sequin or West Lynx

And for good measure, the Lori Thomson rink of Paisley begins play tonight at the Ontario Senior Women's Curling Championship
at Lindsay.

Mid-February means big games in a variety of leagues and sports.

I'm Fred Wallace
