Bench Talk / Off The Wire

The far

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

It's been an eventful week and we're barely half way through it.

First of all in Cobourg we're following the Ontario Men's and Ladies Curling Championship.

Julie Tippin of Owen Sound is skipping for the Woodstock entry in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Tippin lost a lengthy affair yesterday to Megan Balsdon to fall to 1 & 1.

In the Recharge with Milk Men's Tankard, Codey Maus from Tara is skipping the Highland Curling Club entry.

The Maus rink had a productive day yesterday scoring wins over Cory Haggestad and Mark Bice to improve to 3 & 2 at the midway point of the week.

Meanwhile, in hockey circles, the Shallow Lake Crushers and Mapleton-Minto 81's are embroiled in controversy pertaining to last Saturday's scheduled WOAA Senior game.

Mapleton-Minto elected not to travel and called to cancel the game, a fairly significant one for the Crushers operation as it was their annual Family Night.

The WOAA determined the weather wasn't a factor for Mapleton-Minto and thus cashed their performance bond and threatened them with expulsion from the playoff round.

This story may still have some legs.

So, it will be interesting to see in local curling and hockey what the remainder of the week has to bring.

I'm Fred Wallace
