Bench Talk / Off The Wire

OT Again

By Fred Wallace

Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".

Since returning from their Christmas Break, the Knights of Meaford have won just once in the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League, and that's not good.

..........but it's not bad either.

In their first game back, the Knights were beaten at Alliston by the North Division leading Civics who scored twice in the last 5 minutes to win 5-3.

The next day at home, in a pattern that has become familiar, Meaford lost in a shootout to Temiscaming, a squad that is 15 points higher in the standings.

In their next home game, they took the second place Parry Sound Islanders to a shootout before losing 5-4.

After a steady diet of heavyweights, the Knights went off to Sequin and pumped the Huskies 9-3 for their only win so far in 2017.

And then back home last Sunday, again against New Tecumseth, again into overtime, again a disappointing 4-3 OT loss.

So while the record of 1 & 4 since the break is notable from a negative standpoint, what's far more notable positively is how close the Knights are coming to the elite in the North Division.

If Meaford can somehow take the next step upwards.......look out.

Tonight it's a 7:30 start at the Meaford & St Vincent Community Centre as the Knights host the Almaguin Spartans in a game I'm willing to bet doesn't get anywhere near overtime.

I'm Fred Wallace
