Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
Understand that I like the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League in the same way I like movies.
In both cases I'm out for entertainment value and fully understand that there will be moments, scenes and sequences that don't live up to my expectations. That's fair whether we're talking about sticks or flicks.
If there was a movie about the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League there would be some bizarre scenarios featured.
Over the 4 years that I've been watching....
- the Manager of one club fleeced the sponsors of his team for a fat 5 digits
- a team party in another organization left a house in shambles and resulted in assault with a weapon charges.
- a ref cold cocked a player, a trainer jumped the ref
- investigating an eviction notice for team executives in one centre led to the police discovering a neat little grow up
And last week, the story surfaced that the Wiarton Rock approached the Knights of Meaford for financial aid.
Like the movies, there are elements of fact and fiction, details that get embellished or aren't quite factual.
But overall the script that runs underneath the action in the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League is truly movie worthy
