Bench Talk / Off The Wire

Athletics Ontario

By Fred Wallace

Hi this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire " brought to you by your local Auto Logic, the Logical Choice.

Four members of the Saugeen Track and Field Club have been nominated by Athletics Ontario for 2016 Athlete of the Year in their respective age classes.

The four Saugeen members up for the provincial honours are Aiden Hinsperger, Ryan Jacklin and the Elliott Brothers Tony and Jeremy.

Aiden Hinsperger, a Walkerton resident has been nominated in both the Jumps and Sprints division for Bantam Male athletes.

Both Ryan Jacklin who is out of FE Madill at Wingham and Jeremy Elliott, the younger of the two Elliott brothers from Walkerton, are up for the Midget Male Throws title.

Interestingly, the younger Elliott at various times has bypassed the throwing records of his elder brother Tony, who is up for Athlete of the Year in Youth Male Throws

The Athletics Ontario awards will be presented at the annual Gala and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Toronto on September 24th.

Will there be a Saugeen sweep ? Probably not. It's a BIG province and there are plenty of talented performers.

However, to sprint, jump and throw their way into contention speaks volumes for Aiden Hinsperger, Ryan Jacklin and the Elliott Brothers of the Saugeen Track and Field Club.

I'm Fred Wallace
