Blue Jays fans have to be loving this.
Late May and the Toronto entry sits first in the American League East heading to tonight's second game of their series at Fenway Park against their division rivals the Boston Red Sox.
As the Jays embarked on a 9 game road swing last night, there was almost a double delight for Toronto.
One, they're first in the division, historically, as good a division as there's been in baseball.
And two, and maybe more significantly, this is all a total surprise.
Las Vegas posted the Jays " Over/Under " number at the start of the season at 79, meaning you could bet the the Jays would win 80 or more games, or you could bet they would win 78 or less games.
The key # is the 79 posted by the Vegas bookies, who know sports and who know numbers and thus, because they have an aversion to losing money, I generally tend to concede those guys know their stuff
Furthermore, the Jays terrific start has been accomplished with one star pitcher in Roy Halladay followed by a cast of hurlers who could be on the witness protection list. Who are these guys ?
Can the Toronto Blue Jays win the AL East for the first time in 16 years ?
I don't think so.
Vegas didn't think so.
But for the Blue Jays and their fans, they probably don't care today; they're simply loving the first quarter of the season.
