Bluewater Track & Field Recap

Fred

By Fred Wallace

Another year, another weather challenge, and another successful Bluewater Track & Field Meet at Kincardine.

The 2009 Championship was won again by the Saugeen District Royals from Port Elgin.

The Royals won the divisional title in 5 of the 6 age groups and amassed 625 points over two days.

Also over the two days, 5 new records were established.

From the Royals, thrower Kevin Bowman set new standards in the discus & in the shot put.

Another thrower, Andrew Dennis from the Kincardine Knights won a major head to head battle with Mat West of Walkerton in the Junior Javelin and set a new record there.

And finally, Rita Rudell from the Peninsula Shores Phoenix set two meet records, first erasing a long standing mark in the Senior Girls High Jump and then bettering her own record in the 110 hurdles.

There were other notable performers and performances over the course of the meet which takes about 10 hours to conduct over two days and seems to fly by in 10 minutes.
