Zoning Change for New SchoolNorth Huronby Dianne Colgan
Plans for the new kindergarten to grade six school in North Huron had the floor as an amendment was needed to change the designation for a part of a lot from residential to community facility. Superintendent of Education Mike Ash was on hand and says he's hopeful the amendment and zoning change will still be ratified at April's County Council session, after some objections were heard by councillors at Wednesday's meeting. Ash says in the meantime, they're working on a survey to address some concerns about the traffic flow in the area. He says there are some issues with parking at F.E. Madill that need to be looked at, which is located beside the new school property Ash says they've had some challenges with the zoning and official plan changes, but the Ministry of Education has given them some lee-way in how long they have to use the funding for the new school. He says they're still aiming to have the school open in 2012 and are hoping the County will make the necessary changes as soon as possible. The new school will front on to John street in Wingham and is about 18 acres. Owen Sound |
