‘Local Athlete To Attend School in New York’

Rita Rudell of Oliphant has chosen to attend Syracuse University in upstate New York this fall.

The Peninsula Shores student and athlete from the Saugeen Track & Field Club signed her National (US) Letter of Intent and Scholarship offer to join the Syracuse Orange this fall.

The prestigious NCAA Division One school was Rudell’s 1st choice for many reasons, but the biggest was to have the opportunity to work with Coach Enoch Borozinski.

Coach Borozinski is a multi-event specialist and former NCAA Champion in the Decathlon.

Rudell plans to spend 5 years honing her skills and pursuing a career in English Education at Syracuse.

Over 12 schools from Texas, Kansas, Florida, Colorado, South Carolina & New Mexico were after the talented young prospect.

Quotes from Rita:

“After years of hard work and dedication, I will be heading off to Syracuse University in August with a full scholarship. For the past 6 years I have been training with Earl Farrell and the Saugeen Track and Field Club, if it hadn't been for Earl I would not have had this opportunity. I would also like to mention that without the encouragement and support of my family, teachers, and friends, I wouldn't have the drive to continue on my way to achieving my goals.”

“I look forward to attending Syracuse University and furthering my education. With help from Syracuse Coach, Enoch Borozinski, I also hope to achieve greater things in track and field.”

“Our training facilities up here are very limited, but we are so lucky to have such great coaches. Earl and Geordie Farrell, Randy Millar, and Jacqui West have been there for me every step of the way.”

“It will be so neat to have REAL indoor facilities, and lots of athletes to train and compete with.”

“Thanks to everyone in Oliphant and Wiarton who have supported me along the way, you’re the best!”

Mother Donna Rudell says: “I am so proud of her! I think she will really enjoy her time at Syracuse, and it’s close enough for us to see her.”

Father Dave Rudell says: “She deserves this. Rita has not strayed from the path laid out for her and has worked harder than anybody to achieve this.
